For Health Professionals

Allied and Primary Health

HealthWISE is dedicated to advancing the wellbeing of our community by offering a comprehensive range of allied and primary health services across North West New South Wales. Our programs are designed to increase access to essential health services, particularly for those in rural and remote areas. Some programs allow for self-referral, while others require a referral from a health professional. Please find further details below.

Priority Allied Health Services Program (PAHS)

The PAHS program aims to improve health and wellbeing by enhancing access to primary health services in small and rural locations. It also fosters better linkages between allied health and general practice. Treatment under PAHS is free for Health Care Card holders, pensioners, and low-income individuals and requires a referral.

Eligibility:

  • Patients must be low-income earners or hold a pension/health care card.
  • Patients are eligible for one PAHS referral per allied health service annually, except under extenuating circumstances.
  • Referrals can be made by general practitioners, practice nurses, and other allied health professionals, with the patient’s regular GP included in all communication.

Remote Medical Specialists

The Rural Health Outreach Fund (RHOF) and the Medical Outreach Indigenous Chronic Disease Program (MOICDP) aim to improve access to specialist medical and allied health services in rural and remote areas. These programs support specialists and allied health professionals travelling to provide clinical services and upskill local GPs and health workers. These programs are funded through the Rural Doctors Network. Access to these specialist services is through GP referral.

Some Aboriginal-identified services do not require a GP referral. Fee structures vary by provider and should be confirmed upon booking. For more information, contact HealthWISE.
